Director,
Instructor, Choreographer, Performer…
Ameelah,
initially a dancer of tap, ballet, and jazz, discovered belly dance
at just the time in her life when she needed it the most. Trying to
recover from 2 hernia surgeries; the last of which was major, her abdomen
was weak and painful. Within one month of taking belly dance classes,
she was practically pain free and noticed a transformation in her abdominal
muscles.
She
trained with a local belly dance troupe for ~9 months. Ameelah knew
this was her passion & decided it was time to branch out on her
own to continue to grow and train at a higher level in the ancient art.
As a result, she opened her own belly dance school on June 15, 2005
and originated the “Desert Jewels” professional belly dance
troupe. Her students enjoy her charisma and energy. They especially
appreciate her ability to successfully break down & teach choreography
no matter what their level may be.
Ameelah
has seen her studio grow and currently 135 belly dance students (and
new friends) are enrolled in her dance school. As a result, Ameelah
moved her dance school to it’s new location on Military Hwy in
Pineville, LA. On June 23, 2006, the studio celebrated with a “Grand
Opening” show and ribbon cutting with the city of Pineville Mayor.
In
addition, Ameelah is wife; a mother of two boys; and a registered dietitian
working at a local hospital. Although she stays very busy, Ameelah also
enjoys acting & has signed with Landrum Arts LA Talent Agency.
